Connecticut officials unconcerned about competition

CONNECTICUT -- As reported the Norwich Bulletin: "Town officials in Eastern Connecticut say they aren't worried about competition from a casino in Middleborough, Mass.

"Residents of Middleborough Saturday approved an agreement with the Mashpee Wampanoags that eventually could lead to a casino in the town of 20,000 residents.

"...But with state and federal approval still needed, it could be years before the jingle of slot machines echoes through the Bay State.

"North Stonington First Selectman Nicholas H. Mullane II believes Foxwoods Resort Casino, on the border of his town, and Mohegan Sun, across the Thames River, can handle the competition..."
