Connecticut Casinos Reports Slot Record

CONNECTICUT – As reported by the Connecticut Day: "Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort Casino officials reported record slot machine handles in January despite bitter cold weather

"Handle is the total of amount wagered in the slot machines and includes the money that is paid back to players. January's handle at Mohegan Sun was $809.2 million, a 7 percent increase over the previous year. Foxwoods' handle grew 1.7 percent over January 2003, to $723.6 million.

"…Slot machine win, or the amount Mohegan Sun kept after all payouts, was $64.5 million, an increase of 13.3 percent over the previous year. The average daily win per unit jumped 14 percent, to $333. The hold, or percentage of the handle kept by the casino, was 7.97 percent, a .44 increase over January 2003.

"For the third month in a row, Mohegan Sun beat its main competitor in slot machine win and handle. Foxwoods won $56.9 million from its customers, a 4.3 percent drop from January 2003. The average daily win fell 4.9 percent, from $291 in January 2003 to $276.50 for last month.

"Foxwoods' 6,648 slot machines were slightly 'looser,' on average, compared to last January. The machines kept an average of 7.87 percent of the money played into them compared to the 8.38 percent hold last year…"
