Connecticut Casinos Get in Festive Mood

CONNECTICUT – As reported by the Hartford Courant: "The pine-cone wreath on your door and the tasteful candles in your windows are lovely, but try a 17-foot-tall gingerbread house. Or 3,000 live poinsettias. Or a rocking chair made of white chocolate.

"Now you're talking a casino kind of Christmas where the decorations are as big as the customers' dreams - at Foxwoods Resort Casino or Mohegan Sun.

"…But even with professional planning, such flamboyant displays don't just happen. At Mohegan Sun, for example, the planning started in March. Foxwoods' employees began planning nearly a year ago.

"Mohegan's décor includes an 18-foot tree in the center of the hotel lobby's reflecting pool, a similar tree in the casino's winter entrance, covered with icicle branches and internal color-changing lighting. There's a fog machine, and the 17-foot-tall gingerbread house built by casino employees. That includes 6,000 gingerbread bricks, 2,000 gingerbread shingles, 7-foot-high candy canes, 2,400 pounds of icing, and a white-chocolate rocking chair.

"…Foxwoods special events manager Brian Mullen said installation of that casino's holiday decorations took about a week. The decorations are designed to blend with New England's traditional holiday décor, said Mullen, along with 'Native American accents and childlike whimsy.'…"
