Connecticut Casinos Differ in Accounting Methods

CONNECTICUT –As reported by the Connecticut Day: "Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort Casino are using different methods to account for the tickets issued by some slot machines after players have finished betting.

"Mohegan Sun is deducting the amount from the house 'win' as soon as a machine issues a ticket. If the patron has not cashed in the ticket by the time it expires nine months later, the casino will reverse the deduction. The accounting system is similar to the one used by the casino industry in Nevada.

"Foxwoods Resort Casino doesn't reduce its slot win until the customer redeems the ticket, according to spokesman Bruce MacDonald.

"…The ticket accounting issue might seem minor, but it matters to the state Division of Special Revenue, which collects 25 percent of slot machine revenue from the casinos. The two casinos paid $386 million to the state last year. The special revenue division has just finished negotiating with Mohegan Sun about accounting practices for the ticketed slot machines…"
