Connecticut Casino Workers Fight for Bus Ride

HARTFORD, Connecticut – As reported by the NBC30: "Some casino workers depend on buses to make the long ride from Hartford to southeastern Connecticut -- a trip that some lawmakers call a bad deal for taxpayers.

"A proposal being discussed in the state Legislature might end the state-funded program. Sen. Edith Prague said the program costs taxpayers about $45,000 per month.

"The bus carries workers from Hartford and New Britain to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos. The program started as a state funded grant, allowing people on welfare to work at better-paying jobs.

"About 70 workers use the bus, down from 120 workers when the program started.

"…A group of bus riders addressed the Hartford City Council Monday…"
