Connecticut Casino Watchdog Under Investigation

CONNECTICUT – As reported by the Hartford Courant: "State police have begun an inquiry into complaints that a state police major who oversees the casino unit has been regularly gambling at Foxwoods Resort Casino - in violation of his own orders.

"Maj. Frank Griffin, a veteran trooper, was one of two supervisors who signed a 'special order' regarding off-duty casino visits that advised members of the casino unit that they are "prohibited from gambling at any Connecticut casino at any time."

"But two attorneys - both representing state troopers in the unit who are litigating claims of unfair treatment by the department - say that Griffin is a regular at Foxwoods, where he often plays the slot machines. He is the commander of the bureau of criminal investigations, which oversees the casino unit and several others.

"…At issue, [Trooper Roger Beaupré, a state police spokesman,] said, will be whether Griffin should be held to the same rules as the troopers in the gambling unit that he supervises.

"…According to the order dated April 25, 2003, troopers from the gambling unit are not allowed to remain on the premises of the casinos after completing their tours of duty…"
