Connecticut Approves Raising Slot Funding5 May 2006HARTFORD, Connecticut – As reported by the Norwich Bulletin: "State lawmakers approved a provision Wednesday making the additional funding from the Mashantucket Pequot-Mohegan Fund to Eastern Connecticut communities permanent. "That means the 21 communities can expect to see an extra $1.6 million each year to be divided among them. "The original deal, approved by the legislature in 2005, that sends a percentage of the annual increase in slot revenues to Eastern Connecticut communities was only guaranteed for Fiscal Year 2007. The provision making it permanent was included in a budget implementer approved by the legislature Wednesday, the closing day of the 2006 session. "…Norwich Board of Education member Charlie Jaskiewicz, who has lobbied in past years for the slot revenue increase, called the news 'a great boon to the educational process.'…" |
