Concerns Arise Over Proposed Illinois Casino's Location11 February 2004ILLINOIS – As reported by the Chicago Tribune: "Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan said Tuesday that she and other law enforcement officials, as well as the Illinois Gaming Board, have concerns about locating a casino in Rosemont in light of its proximity to O'Hare International Airport. "'Certainly if you locate a casino near an airport, there are significant concerns about actually being able to police money laundering and other types of illegal activity that may take place there,' Madigan said Tuesday. "Three out of seven companies vying to buy the state's last casino license from the bankrupt Emerald Casino would like to build in Rosemont. "A fourth company has proposed building a casino in Des Plaines, also near O'Hare. "A spokeswoman for Madigan said she in no way meant that a casino could not be located in Rosemont, just that its proximity to an airport was one concern of many that would be taken into consideration as the Illinois Gaming Board evaluates bids for the license. "…Gov. Rod Blagojevich said last week that he is not troubled by the possibility of having a casino in Rosemont…" |
