Company Names New Leader For Macau Operation

29 November 2004

Las Vegas Sun

HONG KONG -- Las Vegas Sands Inc. has chosen the head of another casino company to oversee its operations in Macau, a Chinese gambling enclave that recently ended its casino monopoly, a newspaper reported today.

Frank McFadden, currently chief executive of Vienna-based Casinos Austria International Ltd., has been appointed chief operating officer at U.S.-based Las Vegas Sands' Macau arm, Venetian Macau Ltd., the South China Morning Post said.

McFadden takes the position in December, the newspaper said.

It wasn't clear from the report if McFadden is replacing an incumbent, or if his post is newly created. Venetian Macau spokeswoman Alpha Padilla declined comment on the report.

Macau's government decided to end the monopoly held by gambling tycoon Stanley Ho in 2002.

Las Vegas Sands, controlled by casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, presented Ho's first competition in four decades when it opened the Sands Macau in May. It is also building the Venetian Macau, a luxury hotel and casino.
