Companies Join Pennsylvania Lottery Program16 September 2004WILKES-BARRE, Pennsylvania – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Fairchild Semiconductors in Mountain Top and King's College, two companies based in Northeastern Pennsylvania, have pledged to purchase Lottery instant tickets for employees in support of the Lottery's Golden Opportunities Employee Rewards Program. Secretary of Revenue Gregory C. Fajt, Special Assistant for the Department of Aging Brian Elms and Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Lottery Ed Mahlman announced the companies' commitment to the innovative Lottery program today at a news conference at the Charles T. Adams Senior Center. They also encouraged other local businesses to participate. "The leaders of Fairchild Semiconductors, King's College and other companies that have joined the Golden Opportunities Employee Rewards Program are community-minded forward thinkers," said Secretary Fajt. "They recognize that the Golden Opportunities Program can increase productivity while at the same time making a contribution to the community." Governor Edward G. Rendell introduced the Golden Opportunities Program last year, challenging businesses across Pennsylvania to purchase Lottery instant tickets in bulk, on an ongoing basis and as often as possible, to reward employees for jobs well done. Bob Murphy, Fairchild Semiconductors' Managing Director of the Mountain Top site and Erin Savitski, King's College's Director of Human Resources represented their companies at the event. "We think employees will see the benefit of not only receiving rewards for their hard work, but also helping out the community," said Murphy. The Lottery's Golden Opportunities Program is the first employee rewards program for King's College. "We decided to create a program around Lottery tickets," said Savitski. "We plan to use the tickets as employee reward for a number of things, including employee contribution to campus fundraisers." The Pennsylvania Lottery remains the only Lottery that designates all proceeds to programs that benefit older residents. More than one-third of the cost of each Lottery ticket is dedicated to such programs. "By supporting the Pennsylvania Lottery, businesses are in turn supporting more than 2.4 million older residents of Pennsylvania and helping them to live happy, healthy and active lives," said Secretary Fajt. Any business with headquarters or locations in Pennsylvania can participate in the Golden Opportunities Employee Rewards Program. Company officials interested in joining the program can call 1-800-278-9725 or visit the program's Web site at http://www.pagoldenopportunities.com for more information. Since its inception more than 32 years ago, the Lottery has contributed more than $13.8 billion to programs that include property tax and rent rebates; free and reduced-fare transit; the low-cost prescription drug programs PACE and PACENET; and the 52 Area Agencies on Aging, including 650 full- and part-time senior centers throughout Pennsylvania. The Lottery reminds its players to play responsibly. Players must be 18 or older. For more information on the Pennsylvania Lottery, visit the Lottery's Web site, http://www.palottery.com. |
