Commission May Consider Restrictions on Strip Pedicabs, Segway Scooters

LAS VEGAS – As reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal: ``Clark County commissioners may soon consider new restrictions for pedicabs and Segway scooters on the Strip.

``A proposed ordinance to rein in those resort corridor vehicles is in the embryonic stage, but it's unclear what will result.

```We're mulling a lot of different options. We're trying to decide to what extent they'll be regulated,' said county counsel Mary-Anne Miller, who's been charged with drafting a proposal.

``The use of pedicabs -- really bicycle-powered rickshaws -- on Las Vegas Boulevard South has been a point of contention in recent months. Advocates say the vehicles are a fun, free way for tourists to see the Strip, while others claim the vehicles are a target for cars and a hazard for walkers.

``Dozens of the bicycle taxis cruise the Strip on a regular basis, their drivers working for tips…"
