Colorado town bets on Wildwood Casino

CRIPPLE CREEK, Colorado -- As reported by the KOAA News: "An 80-million dollar casino in Cripple Creek is getting ready to open. It's a large, upscale casino, which a new concept for the historic gambling town. City leaders say they hope it boosts Cripple Creek's hurting economy.

"680 slot machines, 14 table games and a poker room will be featured in the 45-thousand square foot Wildwood Casino. General Manager, Kevin Werner, says when it opens, it will be largest casino in Cripple Creek.

"...Cripple Creek's Mayor, Dan Baader says he's betting it will be big with southern Colorado gamblers.

"...The city of Cripple Creek says they do have concerns about declining sales tax revenue. In the first four months of 2008 their numbers were down 11 percent, from the year before.

"...Since gambling is Cripple Creek's primary source of revenue, the new casino has brought high hopes there will be a new surge of tourism heading into summer. The casino also brings 250 new jobs to the city. The Casino plans to open this weekend."
