Colorado Looking to up the Stakes

BLACK HAWK, Colorado -- As reported by KOAA-TV: "...All Colorado casinos have a bet limit of $5, and it's the only state with that limit. Casinos say Colorado is missing out on potential tourism.

"The general manager of the Gold Rush Casino, Mike Hirsch, says the majority of his patrons are locals. He says often times those who travel from other states for gambling play the $5 limit, and don't return.

"...A group from Black Hawk is trying to change that, by organizing an initiative aimed at drawing in out of state gamblers.

"...Hirsch says that about 95-percent of casino play is slot machines in Cripple Creek because of the low table stakes, but he believes that upping the limit would change that..."
