Colorado County Left in Lurch5 October 2005COLORADO – As reported by the Rocky Mountain News: "Pueblo County Commissioner Loretta Kennedy, who had supported a proposed Indian casino and hotel on Pueblo's historic Riverwalk area, said Tuesday she was shocked that two tribes voted to abandon the project. "…However, she said Pueblo has learned from the experience. "…On Saturday, the Southern Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma voted to abandon the $100 million project, opting instead to more aggressively pursue their water and land claims in Colorado. "Steve Hilliard with Council Tree Communications, a management company hired by the tribes to pursue the casino, said he had called for the vote because he wanted to know if there was still support for the project. "…Last year, the casino project was resurrected but on a smaller scale and moved to Pueblo. The Pueblo County commissioners had already sent a letter of intent to the tribes to go forward with the project…" |
