Colorado Casinos Money Eyed for Tourism Promotion12 November 2003DENVER, Colorado – As reported by the Associated Press: "Last year the 42 casinos in Colorado grossed $707.23 million, of which $97.45 million went to the state for its general fund, open space and historic preservation programs. Now the tourism industry is eyeing that revenue stream as a possible source for promotion funding. "…Gov. Bill Owens has set aside about $5 million in his new budget for tourism, but that's less than half the $11.5 million the industry got last year. "…The idea has both support and opposition in the gaming industry. Small casinos are reluctant to cut the number of slot machines to make room for table games, while supporters say it would raise the gambling activity statewide…" |
