Colorado casino tunnel back on track

COLORADO -- As reported by the Denver Post: "After a years-long delay, work has resumed on a study for a proposed tunnel and other road improvements to cut the travel time to Black Hawk and Central City.

"The study of the project's environmental impact started in 2000, was tabled in 2005 and recently was restarted. Planning and engineering firm Jacobs Carter Burgess started working on a new draft environmental-impact statement for the Colorado Department of Transportation last year. It expects to complete the draft statement late this year.

"The process also will include public hearings and create a final environmental-impact statement. A decision from CDOT on the project is expected in 2010.

"The proposed transportation project would improve access and safe travel to gaming areas in Black Hawk and Central City. The tunnel would connect Colorado 119 with Interstate 70..."
