Colorado casino towns ready for 2009

DENVER, Colorado -- As reported by the Denver Post: "Colorado's gambling industry is preparing for a boom this summer even amid an economic recession and after a year of record revenue decline.

"The optimism stems from the Nov. 4 passage of Amendment 50, which allows the three mountain casino towns — Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek — to hold local elections to raise the maximum bet from $5 to $100, allow craps and roulette, and extend to 24-hour operations.

"Black Hawk will tally the votes of its mail-in election tonight. With just 90 active registered voters and a local economy dependent on casino revenue, sweeping approval is expected.

"The Amendment 50 changes will provide a 'fairly big boom in employment for the industry,' said Marc Murphy, co-owner of Bronco Billy's casino in Cripple Creek, which authorized the changes in a landslide vote in December.

"Bronco Billy's plans to hire at least 50 to 75 people, Murphy said Monday. The casino employs about 300. It will add craps and roulette and take $100 bets as soon as allowed under state law, Murphy said..."
