Colorado Casino Reports Record Month

COLORDO – As reported by the Rocky Mountain News: "Residents and tourists headed into the cool of Colorado's casinos during the dog days of July, spending enough to make it an all-time record month.

"Casinos reported more than $69.9 million in adjusted gross proceeds last month, according to the Colorado Department of Revenue's Division of Gaming.

"That's up almost 4 percent from $67.3 million in July 2004, the previous record, division spokesman Don Burmania said.

"Adjusted gross proceeds, or AGP, measures gambling revenue minus the amount paid out in winnings. Tax on July's AGP totaled about $1.5 million to the state, Burmania said. That doesn't include sales tax on souvenirs or food and beverages, he said.

"…AGP at the city's seven casinos rose 57.8 percent to $7 million in July over the same month last year. In Cripple Creek, 19 casinos reported $15.1 million in July AGP, less than a 1 percent increase over July 2004.

"Colorado's 47 casinos employ about 7,500 workers, most year-round, said Lois Rice, executive director of the Colorado Gaming Association, a trade group for the state's gambling establishments…"
