Colorado Casino Offers $1 Billion to Education Board9 July 2004COLORADO – As reported by the Denver Post: "An attempt to lure State Board of Education support for a proposed Indian casino project got a tepid response Wednesday, despite the developer's offer to earmark $1 billion in gaming revenue over 10 years for public education. "Developer Michael Brendzel, vice president of Golden-based Council Tree Communications, asked board members to help him get a meeting with Gov. Bill Owens to discuss the so-called 'Cheyenne-Arapaho Homecoming Project.' "…The Homecoming Project involves the tribes trading their claim to the 27 million acres for 500 acres near Denver for a casino. "Owens, who must sign off on any tribal casino settlement, unequivocally opposes the plan, said his spokesman, Dan Hopkins. "…State Board of Education members, who were hearing the gaming proposal for the first time Wednesday, did not give Brendzel an answer. Some were critical of the project, which Brendzel said would improve the lives of 11,000 tribal members in Oklahoma…" |
