Cold brings down Indiana casino numbers

INDIANA – As reported by the Northwest Indiana News: "Gamblers scaled back visits to Northwest Indiana casinos during a frigid February, helping to drive down total revenue by 9.3 percent from last year.

"The five Lake Michigan riverboats took in $106.9 million for the month, compared to a record $117.9 million in February 2006, when gamblers got their first look at the then-newly unveiled Blue Chip casino in Michigan City.

"Foot traffic to the five casinos fell by 20 percent, with 1.03 million people passing through turnstiles in February, compared to 1.28 million a year earlier, according to information from the Indiana Gaming Commission.

"…The decline was expected, said Ed Feigenbaum, whose Indiana Gaming Insight tracks the state's gambling industry.

"…Statewide, Indiana's 11 casinos took in a combined $214.2 million, a 3 percent decline from a year earlier, and at least partly due to winter storms that pounded the state with snow, ice and sub-zero wind chills during February, Feigenbaum said…"
