Club Cal Neva Closing Hotel

RENO, Nevada-- The Club Cal Neva hotel and casino is closing its 125-room Virginian tower in downtown Reno this weekend.

The closure of the 16-story tower will result only in a small number of voluntary layoffs, company officials said. The closure will not affect its main casino adjacent to the Virginian on Virginian Street or the 181-room Nevadan tower across the street.

"I've been negotiating with the French company that owns it for about a year and a half," said Jeff Siri, president and chief executive of Sierra Development Co., which owns the Cal Neva and its 20 satellite race and sports books throughout the region.

It is unknown what will happen with the building after it is vacated.
