Cleaners Strike Macau's Sands4 October 2004HONG KONG -- As reported by the Associated Press: "More than 20 cleaners at Macau's Sands casino staged a brief strike after their union leader was fired in a pay dispute with one of the casino's contractors, the fired leader said today. "Tang Kuok Reong said he was fired after complaining to the contracting company about its demand that about 60 employees refund some pay for hours that went unlogged because a machine used for punching their timecards stopped working. "Some workers walked off the job for an hour and a half Sunday night, prompting the company to agree to drop its demand for a refund from the employees, although Tang was not reinstated, Tang told the Associated Press by telephone..." |
