Clark County quiet on casino ruling29 November 2006WASHINGTON – As reported by the Columbian: "Despite rampant rumors, Clark County commissioners will make no decision Wednesday on whether to appeal a court decision regarding the proposed Cowlitz casino. "The Cowlitz Tribe's plan to build a casino near La Center hit a legal bump last month when the Washington Court of Appeals said the county's 2004 agreement with the tribe represents a de facto amendment to the county's long-range growth plan. "County commissioners, after conferring with their attorneys privately, asked the court to reconsider its Oct. 17 decision, but their request was turned down last week. "Anti-casino forces believe the court decision opens the door to change or scuttle the memorandum of understanding between the county and tribe, an agreement they have denounced ever since it was signed more than two years ago. "…But Rich Lowry, the county's chief civil attorney, said no meeting has been scheduled to discuss legal strategy…" |
