Clark county casino referendum low-key

INDIANA – As reported by the Louisville Courier-Journal: "Merrick Bartlett of Jeffersonville says she votes in every election.

"But she said that until a reporter called her last week, she was unaware a referendum on legalized gambling will be on the Nov. 7 ballot in Clark County.

"…George Hughes Sr., a Clark County businessman and leader of hard-fought efforts to win voter approval for a riverboat casino in 1993 and 1995, said he didn't know the referendum was on the ballot, either.

"…The limited exposure and lack of public debate about this year's gambling referendum stands in stark contrast to the two previous campaigns.

"…John Perkins, a Jeffersonville businessman and member of the City Council, said he believes this year's low-key approach could have a different result.

"…Clark County Democratic Chairman Rod Pate agrees that the gambling question isn't likely to succeed…"
