City Officials Discuss Potential Slot Parlor Sites

Philadelphia Mayor John Street's gambling panel released a 372-page interim report Tuesday that may have shed light on potential sites for gambling halls, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

The report says the city could earn the most money by locating one slot parlor along the Delaware River near South Columbus Boulevard and another near the Schuylkill Expressway and U.S. Route 1, the newspaper reported today.

Under Pennsylvania gambling law, the city will receive 4 percent of a casino's gross revenue, which may be as much as $34 million at those two sites, and gain about 9,500 jobs, the Inquirer said, citing Wharton School professor Bernard Anderson.

A state Supreme Court ruling in June gave Philadelphia the power to regulate the location of the two casinos after a state law gave authority to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, the newspaper said.
