City files lawsuit against Cowlitz tribal casino plans1 April 2008VANCOUVER, Washington -- As reported by the Lower Columbia Daily News: "The city of Vancouver has filed a lawsuit in federal court in an attempt to block one piece of the Cowlitz Indian tribe's efforts to build a $510 million casino near La Center, Wash. "The suit, filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Tacoma, requests the court require that the National Indian Gaming Commission set aside the tribe's gaming ordinance approved in January, according to a news release from the city. "...Even if the city prevails in federal court, the casino could still move forward. The lawsuit, however, could force the National Indian Gaming Commission to review its gaming compact with the Cowlitz tribe, said Vancouver assistant city attorney Brent Boger..." |
