Citizen Group Oppose Trump Project11 August 2006PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer: "A coalition of citizen groups announced yesterday that it would actively oppose a state gaming license for the Donald Trump organization in Philadelphia, accusing Trump of 'divide and conquer' tactics in talks with neighbors of the proposed TrumpStreet casino complex on the border of Nicetown and East Falls. "'Take your casino to the outskirts. We can take a bus if we want to gamble. We can take the subway,' said Ralph Wynder, chairman of the Multi-Community Alliance (MCA). "…Wynder and other community leaders addressed about 40 sign-holding supporters in front of Tasty Baking Co. headquarters at Roberts Avenue and Fox Street, near the proposed casino, at times struggling to be heard over traffic and drivers honking horns. "Wynder said representatives of six of 27 MCA members met with Trump until late last month, when Trump broke off talks and insisted that any community benefit money be funneled through Allegheny West Foundation. "…Trump's ending of talks made other MCA members suspicious that a side deal had been struck between Trump and Tasty Baking and Allegheny West…" |
