Chukchansi Casino Boosts Economy

COARSEGOLD, California – As reported by the Madera Tribune: "The Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino in its first year has super charged the local economy with hundreds of new jobs and millions of new dollars.

"Herman Perez, division administrator of the Madera County Workforce Assistance Center, said the resort's greatest economic impact has been in the hiring of approximately 1,400 employees.

"…Stell Manfredi, chief administrative officer of Madera County, said an agreement with the Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indian Tribe assures at least 50 percent of all the employees are from Madera County. The surge of new jobs has driven down Madera County's unemployment rate to the lowest among nearby counties.

"…The 192-room luxury resort, which opened in June 2003, has an annual payroll in excess of $24 million.

"…In addition, the Tribe also financially supports six firemen at a cost of approximately $340,000 annually and donated two firefighting vehicles valued at approximately $600,000. They've also contributed $175,000, half as a donation and half as an interest-free loan, for the construction of a new fire station…"
