Christie signs horse racing bills

11 April 2011

TRENTON, New Jersey -- Two racing bills were signed Monday by Gov. Chris Christie, Asbury Park Press reported.

Advance bets will now be permitted for races not simulcast at the facility, as long as the race is simulcast at other state facilities, the report explained.

The other bill will see Meadowlands Racetrack permitted to reduce the season to 75 dates, which is aimed at helping racetracks become more self sustaining, Asbury Park Press said.

Details of the bills and the vote were as follows:

S831/A2513 (Codey, Beck/McKeon, Caputo) Permits wager to be placed at racetracks or casino simulcasting facilities in advance for races not simulcast at facility under certain circumstances if race is simulcast at other facilities in the State.
Passed Senate 38-0, Assembly 77-0.

S2390/A3511 (Sarlo, Whelan/Burzichelli, Dancer, Wagner, Casagrande, Vainieri Huttle) Decreases annual standardbred race dates to 75 minimum upon consent from Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey; increases to 5% maximum amount of certain purse moneys that may be distributed to aid horsemen.
Passed Senate 39-0, Assembly 75-0.
Reduces the length of the meet at the Meadowlands Racetrack and Freehold Raceway.
