Chips not down yet for Shannon casino

SHANNON, Ireland -- As reported by The Limerick Leader: "The businessman behind the proposed casino for Shannon said this Wednesday that the chips are not down yet on his plan.

"John O'Donovan was speaking the morning after Shannon Town Council effectively outlawed such gambling in the town. Elected members were unanimous in making a decision to rescind a section of the 1956 Gaming and Lotteries Act insofar as it relates to Shannon.

"Plans were lodged with Clare County Council several months ago to build a casino – including poker, blackjack, roulette and fruit machines – next to the Town Centre.

"...Mr O'Donovan's appeal is currently with An Bord Pleanala and he is vowing to persist with his 3 million plans which he says would create at least 20 jobs..."
