China Detains 15,000 in Gambling Crackdown28 January 2005BEIJING, China – As reported by the Muzi News: "China has detained about 15,000 people suspected of gambling offences since a crackdown announced in November, state media said on Friday. "The Communist Party outlawed gambling, prostitution and drugs after it rose to power in 1949, but the vices have made a comeback as state controls have been loosened. "The 'relentless strike' campaign has targeted high-rolling officials and executives at state-owned companies as part of a larger fight against widespread corruption.
