China Arrests 10,000 in Crackdown

CHINA – As reported by the Australian: "China's government has arrested more than 10,000 people in a massive nationwide campaign against gambling, state media reported today.

"A focal point of the crackdown appears to be free-wheeling Jiangsu province on the eastern seaboard, where 7,256 offenders have been punished, the Xinhua news agency said.

"In Fujian province, further down the east coast, 2,178 gamblers have been detained, according to the agency.

"In northeastern Jilin province, more than 400 gambling dens disguised as recreation centres for the elderly have been closed down, Xinhua reported…"
