Chicago Mayor Weighs Casino Deal6 May 2004ILLINOIS – As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times: "Mayor Daley is expected to wait until next week to decide if he'll commit to a Chicago casino proposal that his Springfield lobbying team is crafting. "His aides believe it's now-or-never time for the mayor because of momentum that is building to add three or four new casino licenses to raise at least $1 billion for the state's cash-strapped budget. Besides Chicago -- where Daley has flirted with the idea of a city-owned, land-based gaming license -- Rockford, Waukegan and a south suburb also are in the mix. "…But city ownership might not be as lucrative as Daley thinks, suggested state Sen. Denny Jacobs (D-East Moline), who has been drafting a gambling expansion package that, besides new casinos, includes slot machines at horse tracks…" |
