Cherokee plans casino expansion12 January 2007CATOOSA, Oklahoma – As reported by the Tulsa World: "Cherokee Nation officials on Thursday announced a $125 million expansion of their largest casino that includes a new hotel tower and convention space built around the existing site. "The planned additions will expand the size of the casino and resort by 125 percent and make it the largest gaming center in the state, said David Stewart, chief executive officer of Cherokee Nation Enterprises. "The announcement comes a little more than two years after the tribe opened the $80 million Catoosa casino in November 2004. "When complete, the facility will total 337,000 square feet. The center of the expansion is the addition of a hotel tower with 200 more rooms and 20 high-end suites, Stewart said. "…Cherokee Principal Chief Chad Smith said the new addition will reinforce economic growth in the area. "…The planned facility will feature a skyline restaurant, convention facilities and other amenities. A $16 million parking garage that is currently being built at the casino is included in the expansion. It will feature 1,400 parking spaces when completed this summer…" |
