Cherokee Casino GM turns waitress for a good cause

19 August 2013

FORT SMITH, Ark. (PRESS RELEASE) -– Trading in her usual business attire for an apron and serving tray, Tonya Pascale, general manager of Cherokee Casino - Roland and Cherokee Casino - Sallisaw, recently volunteered as a celebrity waiter for a local American Cancer Society fundraising event.

Pascale joined doctors, attorneys, radio emcees and civic leaders from around the Fort Smith area for Celebrity Waiter Night at the MovieLounge. There they served a lavish steak dinner to tables filled with employees, family and peers.

"I am so thankful to Tonya for giving her time and talents to our first ever Celebrity Waiter event to benefit the American Cancer Society and its mission to create a world with more birthdays," said Kim Vann, 2013 Relay For Life of North Sebastian County-Ft. Smith event chair. "Because of Cherokee Casino's continued support of our cause, we were able to raise more than $7,000 from the dinner."

The team of celebrity waiters raised funds for cancer research by selling auction items and receiving tips from their guests, all to the backdrop of a swanky, live jazz band.

"The sad reality is, most people have at least one person in their life affected by cancer," Pascale said. "It is a very serious disease, and it was moving to see so many notable people from our community helping to shine a light on the research funds needed for cancer. The speakers were wonderful. It was a fun event for a great cause, and that research is what is needed to continue saving lives."

In more than 5,200 communities and 20 countries, the American Cancer Society is a global movement to honor cancer survivors, remember lost loved ones, help people get well and fight back against cancer. The American Cancer Society puts donations to work, investing in groundbreaking research in every type of cancer and providing free information and services to cancer patients and their caregivers.
