Cherokee Casino Fort Gibson delivers school supplies to Braggs students25 September 2013BRAGGS, Okla. -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Employees from Cherokee Casino - Fort Gibson recently delivered boxes filled with school supplies to Braggs Public Schools, in hopes of relieving some of the stress the back-to-school season can bring to families. More than 200 items, including binders, pencils, crayons and tissues, were collected during a supply drive at Cherokee Casino Fort Gibson. “We’re happy with the generosity of our employees,” said Clay Young, casino operations manager for Cherokee Casino Fort Gibson. “It’s great to be a part of a group so conscious of others, especially volunteers like Erin, our team captain. She has the drive to get out there and really make a difference. We couldn’t do it without people like her.” The school supplies were purchased by casino employees and then collected at the property before being contributed to the school. “I love working with our team,” said Erin Williams, casino shift manager for Cherokee Casino Fort Gibson. “When we see a need in our community, we try to fill it. Every department pitches in.” The items will be distributed among the students throughout the school year, based on necessity. “With the lack of funding for our school, we really appreciate the supplies,” said Bill Rogers, principal of Braggs Public Schools. “We have a lot of kids who don’t have the proper tools to make it through the school year; this makes everything fair. We’re very thankful.” Seventeen Cherokee Nation Businesses properties participated in the month-long drive, each designating its recipient school. The school supply drives were coordinated through the tribe’s Community Impact Team, which helps promote volunteerism and community engagement for all tribal employees. |
