Cherokee Casino employees feed Tulsa homeless9 May 2013TULSA, Oklahoma -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Recently, employee volunteers from Cherokee Casino - Fort Gibson took their day off to not only acknowledge a local hunger problem, but do something about it. As part of the Community Impact Team, a CNB employee-driven initiative to serve our local communities through volunteer efforts, the employees traveled to Iron Gate, a local nonprofit that offers a soup kitchen and food pantry, hoping to make a difference by handing out hot meals to homeless of Tulsa. “The volunteer spirit is running rampant at this property. You can’t help but catch it,” said Willie Whitekiller, general manager at Cherokee Casino - Fort Gibson. “It’s always been important to us to make sure we help take care of our neighbors. Our employees aren’t afraid to get out there and make a difference.” Volunteers worked behind the counter in the soup kitchen and food pantry passing out meals to the needy people visiting the homeless outreach post. “Our mission of Feeding the Hungry and Homeless of Tulsa every day, can only be fulfilled because of the dedication of our volunteers,” said Meghann Ray, marketing and communications director at Iron Gate. “Our volunteers epitomize our philosophy of treating our guests with courtesy, kindness and respect.” Iron Gate is a privately funded, nondenominational soup kitchen and food pantry located in downtown Tulsa. Iron Gate focuses on food, a basic need, as its primary mission. The soup kitchen provides a hot, nutritious meal every day from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and Sundays and holidays 8:30-10 a.m. The food pantry distributes grocery bags every Friday and Saturday morning.
