Cheltenham racecourse refunds money to punters

16 November 2009

CHELTENHAM, England -- A marketing exercise by Cheltenham racecourse has resulted in certain punters claiming a refund on their tickets, according to the BBC.

The racecourse had offered certain racegoers a refund if an Irish trained horse won the race. No such horse had won in 29 years, the BBC report explained.

Tranquil sea's victory means 200 punters are entitled to a refund of £30 each.

Despite the payout, Cheltenham hailed the exercise a success because of the amount of publicity it generated, the BBC reported.
