Charleston Officials: City Saturated with Gambling Parlors

WEST VIRGINIA – As reported by the Charleston Daily: "Charleston is so saturated already with video lottery parlors, new gambling joints can't find any locations to set up shop, say city leaders.

"…City law states that gambling establishments cannot be located within 2,000 feet of one another. They also are not permitted within 1,000 feet of churches, libraries, schools, community centers and the State Capitol complex.

"The regulations do not apply to the city business district, which is essentially downtown from Broad Street to the Elk River, said City Planning Director Dan Vriendt.

"…Vriendt said there are more than 50 gaming parlors in the city and that he receives at least one inquiry from someone wanting to open an establishment every week.

"…Because it appears no one can find an open spot without violating the ordinance, city officials deem the restrictions successful…"
