Central Texas Could Still Get VLTs

TEXAS – As reported by the Taylor Daily Press: "Even if Pflugerville doesn't get the go-ahead from the Texas Racing Commission to gamble on horse racing, Central Texas could still get the nod for a video lottery facility if not a full-blown casino.

"A house bill introduced by Rep. Sylvester Turner of Houston, H B 897, proposes to add video lottery terminals at Indian reservations and horse and greyhound racetracks. In addition, casino operators licensed by the Texas Lottery Commission would be allowed to deploy the gambling machines in nine different locations across the state, including Central Texas.

"…Turner traditionally has been opposed to any expansion of gambling in Texas, but a statement his office issued when his bill was filed pointed to the budget crunch Texas is facing, especially with regard to social service agencies…"
