Cayuga County officials reject deal

NEW YORK -- As reported by the Syracuse Post-Standard: "After Cayuga County legislators rejected a proposed settlement Tuesday night, a lawyer for the Cayuga Indian Nation said the nation will try to negotiate a casino and land trust deal with the state and federal governments.

"...The offer included an annual payment of $15.3 million to the two counties and $120 million to the state to offset tax losses. The two counties had until Friday to accept the deal.

"Instead, Cayuga County lawmakers passed a resolution Tuesday night saying they would support a Cayuga casino in the Catskills in exchange for an end to claims on sovereign land in the county.

"Seneca County rejected the Cayugas' proposal and passed a similar resolution earlier in the month..."
