Cattle Congress Wants Iowa Track Opened

WATERLOO, Iowa – As reported by the Associated Press: "The National Cattle Congress would like to reopen the Waterloo Greyhound Park for gambling, a plan that competes directly with a proposal for a riverboat casino.

"The cattle congress has approached several gaming groups, including the Meskwaki Tribal Council, about bringing gambling to the track. The names of other groups weren't released.

"The cattle congress, which contends reviving the track would be easier than bringing a riverboat casino to the area, also has sent information to the Waterloo and Cedar Falls chambers of Commerce about its idea.

"…Tom Jochum, a spokesman for the Meskwaki tribe, said the tribe is aware of the cattle congress' proposal but that several hurdles would need to be cleared before the track could reopen for gambling…"
