Casinos to temporarily close early in Netherlands

17 November 2021

Due to a sharp rise in the number of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations, the Dutch government has announced a partial lockdown until at least 3 December.

There will be a new set of measures that include a mandatory closing time for land-based gambling venues (6 p.m.), including casinos and slot machine arcades.

All visitors of gambling venues must continue to present a valid coronavirus entry pass. Other short-term measures include face masks being mandatory in places where a coronavirus entry pass is not required. People also must remain 1.5 meters apart from each other when in places that the entry passes are not required.

For sporting events, spectators are not allowed to be in attendance for professional and amateur events.

The government hopes that it will be able to open up again fully if these measures reverse the trend and positive cases fall.
