19 April 2004

MACAU – As reported by Reuters: "Macau's gaming industry will create around 22,000 jobs over the next few years, equivalent to 10 percent of the workforce, as the territory undergoes a Las Vegas-style makeover, industry representatives said.

"Casino operators including Stanley Ho's Sociedade de Jogos de Macau (SJM), Wynn Resorts (NasdaqNM:WYNN) headed by Las Vegas gaming magnate Steve Wynn, and Galaxy Casino are recruiting dealers, slot machine technicians, hotel and restaurant staff.

"….Macau has a workforce of around 220,000 out of a population of 448,000. Its unemployment rate stood at 5.5 percent February when 12,000 residents were out of work.

"Macau's 12 casinos generated one third of the territory's gross domestic product in 2002."
