Casinos Help Celebrate Atlantic City's 150th Birthday

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "The city's 150th birthday party will start on a historical note, explode into a bunch of musical notes and include at least a few notably odd events, including a running race - held in the ocean.

"The committee leading the celebration announced a partial list Thursday of what it is planning, including musical appearances from local favorites such as Ralph Peterson Jr., one of the top drummers in jazz today; Suzette Charles Bley, the former Miss America from Mays Landing; and Charlie Prose and Cozy Morley, two old-line Atlantic City entertainers.

"But the special-events committee, headed by radio talk-show host Pinky Kravitz, attached a watch-this-space warning to those preliminary plans: 'There are a couple of what we feel are blockbuster' acts they expect to perform in the summer, he said, declining to give any details until contracts are signed.

"All 12 of the city's casinos have agreed to put on concerts to celebrate the anniversary, Kravitz added, and the ones that front on the Boardwalk will have their shows on the beach. The Sands Casino Hotel will do its concert in Brighton Park, and the three Marina District casinos will put on their shows in public spots around their properties. The casino concerts are scheduled to start in mid-June and run once a week through the summer…"
