28 February 2006

ANSAS -- As reported by the Kansas City Star: "The Kansas City StarGoods and services purchased by Kansas City's two casinos from minority- and women-owned businesses fell in 2005 for the third consecutive year. But casino employment for minorities was up.

"...But Gayle Holliday, (president of G & H Consulting) last week reported to the Port Authority of Kansas City that 2005 spending with minority- and women-owned firms by Ameristar Kansas City Casino and Hotel fell to 13.2 percent of total purchases from 16.5 percent in 2004 and 28.6 percent in 2002.

"The casino's share of minority workers was up last year to a record 37 percent of its 1,850-employee work force.

"Spending with minority- and women-owned firms by the Isle of Capri Casino fell to 12.8 percent from 13.7 percent in 2004 and its most recent high of 24 percent in 2003.

"...Holliday said neither casino met its combined 33.8 percent purchasing goals from minority- and women-owned firms, which are set in the casinos' operating and lease agreements with the city.
