Casinos cutting minimums to keep players

NIAGARA FALLS, New York -- As reported by The Buffalo News: "Up until a few months ago, the minimum blackjack table at the Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls had been $10.

"Now, Western New York's biggest casino advertises that $5 blackjack tables are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"The recession is bringing hard times to the gambling industry. Casino companies are laying off employees, building projects have halted, betting parlors are closing.

"But it appears bad times are good for gamblers, at least those who still have money.

"'...We at Seneca Gaming Corporation, similar to other companies in Western New York, have noticed a change in consumer discretionary spending,' said Jillian Fiorella, spokeswoman for the corporation.

"Eager to keep its customers gambling, Seneca Gaming has responded with a 'Best Bets' campaign promoting its 97 percent payback slot machines and $5 minimum bet blackjack tables..."
