Casinos Boosts Connecticut Tourism

CONNECTICUT – As reported by the Norwich Bulletin: "A regional travel index scheduled for release today will show a 2 percent increase in tourism in Eastern Connecticut for June, compared to the same time last year.

"The increase is primarily the result of the region's two casinos, however.

"Other regional tourist attractions continue to show a decline, according to preliminary data produced by Mystic Coast, which promotes tourism in the region.

"…Preliminary data shows visitors to Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun rose 4.2 percent. Visitors to Eastern Connecticut's restaurants dropped 7.2 percent, and visitors to attractions dropped 5.8 percent. Data also shows occupancy at lodgings down about 6 percent…"
