Casinos appeal to recover gambling debts

KOTA KINABALU, Malaysia – As reported by the Malaysian Star: "The Court of Appeal will hear today an application by two foreign casinos to recover the RM7.1mil gambling debts owed by former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Osu Sukam.

"The date was fixed by a three-man bench comprising Justices Datuk James Foong, Datuk Abd Hamid Embong and Datuk Mohamad Raus Sharrif.

"The London-based casinos – Ritz Hotel Casino Ltd and RHC Ltd– are applying to register in the High Court in Sabah and Sarawak to recover the debts.

"…On July 5, 2005, Sabah High Court judge Datuk Ian Chin dismissed an application by the casinos to enforce an English High Court judgment against Osu for RM7,142,859.98 in gambling debts…"
