Casino zoning appealed

PENNSYLVANIA – As reported by the Evening Sun: "Casino opponents have appealed an October decision by the Straban Township Zoning Hearing Board to permit the proposed gaming resort near routes 15 and 30.

"The appeal asks an Adams County judge to overturn the board's decision, based on 11 separate arguments.

"The board's unanimous decision was reached after six hearings and allowed the project, with 10 conditions, including traffic improvements, landscaping and a berm and fence between the township's recreation park and the casino.

"Developer Crossroads Gaming Resort and Spa LP has already received preliminary planning approval from the township, and it's still waiting on its most important approval – the awarding of a gambling license from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

"…Nine Straban Township residents who intervened in the zoning hearings were named as plaintiffs in the appeal. No Casino Gettysburg had originally tried to influence a decision, but the board ruled the opposition group does not have standing. Individual members of the group came forward instead…"
